Sun Jan 1 1865 Very pleasant & good sleighing. Growing cold. Evening, quite so, Loss & Ellen went home, wrote a letter to Henry.
Mon Jan 2 Cold. Washed. I cut me a good calico dress.
Tue Jan 3 Three weeks since I came home. Heber 30 years old. Finished off my dress. Pleasant and good sleighing.
Wed Jan 4 Snowed and I sewed. Evening wrote a letter to Henry.
Thur Jan 5 Pleasant. Received two letters from
Fri Jan 6 Rained some.
Sat Jan 7 A rainy day.
Sun Jan 8 Pleasant. Mrs Warner, Mrs Harriet Gates & Celia Tooker called. I called at Annies. Wrote to Henry. Cloudy in the evening.
Mon Jan 9 Washed. Mrs Chapel spent the afternoon here. Evening Ellen, Bell & I called at Mrs Warner's.
Tue Jan 10 A rainy day, received a letter from Henry.
Wed Jan 11 Evening surprise party at O.A. Bannings.
Thu Jan 12 Pleasant. Mother went to Essex & back. received a letter from Henry. He expects to come home on Saturday night.
Fri Jan 13 Pleasant. Bell & I made us a needle book.
Sat Jan 14 Cloudy, Henry came home in the evening.
Mon Jan 16 At 10 o'clock A.M. Henry left on his way to Hartford & Bell left for New London. Cold & clear. We washed.
Tue Jan 17 Cloudy. I sewed most of the time. Snowed during the evening.
Wed Jan 18 Clear and cold.
Thur Jan 19 Cold, snowed in the evening. Loss & Ellen spent the afternoon & evening. Received a letter from Henry. Commenced to make a jacket for Eddie.
Fri Jan 20 Clear not quite as cold as yesterday. Afternoon Mother went to Hamburgh and back, got me a pair of flat irons & other articles. Evening Surprise party at Mrs E.G.C. Brockway's.
Sat Jan 21 Cloudy. Received a letter from Henry. Finished Eddie's jacket.
Sun Jan 22 Cloudy & thawy. Evening Zeb Warner & wife, Nell Brockway and Mrs Watrous called. Mother went up to Mrs LaPlaces. Mr John (Tinker) buried in Lyme.
Mon Jan 23 Stormy, commenced another jacket for Eddie.
Tue Jan 24 We washed. Oscar & Ernest commenced to go to dancing school taught by .
Wed Jan 25 Evening party at O.A. Banning's.
Thu Jan 26 Pleasant. Bell came home from New Haven. Received a letter from Henry. Evening Mr Geo. Phelps died of lung fever, aged 52 years.
Fri Jan 27 A cold day.
Sat Jan 28 Cold. Received a letter from Henry.
Sun Jan 29 Cold. Mother attended Mr Phelps funeral. Ellen & Loss came back with her & took Bell home with them.
Mon Jan 30 Cold but clear.
Tue Jan 31 Pleasant. Heber & went to East Haddam on the river. Received a letter from Henry. A Promenade concert in Allyn Hall and supper in Allyn House this eve for benefit of the Soldier's Home.
Wed Feb 1 1865 Cloudy. Heber & Ellen came home from East Haddam. Mr Ulysses Ely died aged (6l) years.
Thu Feb 2 Cold. Mother went up to Mrs Phelpses and spent the afternoon.
Fri Feb 3 Not quite as cold. Mr Lord called.
Sat Feb 4 Received a letter from Henry. Mr U Ely buried.
Sun Feb 5 Pleasant morning. Came off squally, evening cold.
Mon Feb 6 Clear & cold, clouded up in the evening.
Tue Feb 7 Cloudy. Commenced to snow at night.
Wed Feb 8 Cloudy & unpleasant. Rained last night. Received a letter from Henry. Evening exhibition at the school house by the scholars of Miss Laura Tooker's school.
Thu Feb 9 Cold. Evening wrote a letter to Henry. A son born to Julius Andrews.
Fri Feb 10 Cold.
Sat Feb 11 Cold. Received a letter & telegram from Henry.
Sun Feb 12 Cloudy & cold.
Mon Feb 13 Clear & cold.
Tue Feb 14 Not as cold. Received a letter from Henry. Evening Mother & I went over to Mrs Post's and called. Edna & Eddie dragged us across the river on the ice.
Wed Feb 15 More moderate. Cloudy afternoon, rained in the evening.
Thur Feb 16 Received a letter from Henry. Rained hard all last night. Muddy walking. Evening Surprise party at Frank LaPlace's.
Sat Feb 18 Mrs Post spent the afternoon here. Received a letter & paper from Henry . Heber & wife went to East Haddam.
Sun Feb 19 Pleasant. Heber & wife came home at night.
Mon Feb 20 Cloudy. Did not feel well. Heber went to Essex.
Tue Feb 21 Pleasant. Afternoon Eliza Wms Post called. Evening 1/2 past 8 taken sick. Dr. came at 12.
Wed Feb 22 Was sick, Mrs Post came over in the morning, Dr. left in the morning & returned at night.
Thu Feb 23 1865 At 15 minutes to 2 P.M. my first child [a son] born. Henry arrived home at 10 o'clock P.M. & watched with me through the night. Cloudy, rained a little. Baby weighed 7 lbs. 10 ozs.
