The Civil War Letters of Henry Sill Lord

April 13, 1862

My Dear Wife,

We are at Ship Island. All well. We arrived here last night (Saturday). Are agoing on shore. Today Sunday. There are 15 regiments on the Island. We make 16 - 7 regiments leave the Island for New Orleans Wednesday next and we only 8tay 2 or 3 weeks. Porter's mortar flank are bombarding Fort Jackson. The Steamer which we send by came last night in the night and leaves this morning. They give us 10 minutes to write in. I have been well so far and am relieved now so I am free again.

Love to you, respects to all.

Husband

H.S. Lord
