Fri Dec 3 Mrs Matilda Laplaces 5 child died aged 10 months of inflamation on the lungs.
Sun Dec 5 I attended the funeral at the school-house, the babes name was George Warner.
Mon Dec 6 In the afternoon I made some calls. Mother received another letter from Mrs Lee she wishes not to give up going to Hartford.
Tue Dec 7 In the forenoon I packed up and after dinner I started with Father to go to Deep River from there I intended to go to Hartford. We came up in the dory boat - the east side of 12 mile island, but could not get around it on account of the ice which had blocked in: so we went ashore on the island and Father pulled the boat across the island and then rowed to the shore of the ship-yard. I found Gib there and he went to Mrs Arnold's with me where I spent the night.
Wed Dec 8 I intended to take the stage to Middletown to-day and then take the cars to Hartford, but it has been a rainy day, which prevented me. I spent the afternoon and eve at Emma Lord's.
Thu Dec 9 I started about 6 in the morning for Middletown in a private team with Capt.. Baker hoping to reach Middletown in time to take the noon train of cars, but broke down in Chester and consequently did not reach Middletown till 8 m. after the cars had left. So I called on Mrs John Smith and at half past 4 took the cars for Hartford and reached Mrs Lee's about 6.
Tue Dec 14 Mrs Lee & I attended a lecture before the "Young Men's Institute" delivered by Ralph Waldo Emerson on the "Laws of Success."
Fri Dec 18 In the afternoon Mrs Lee and I attended a lecture in American Hall delivered by Dr.Wieting. Mr Edward Gates called in the evening.
Sun Dec 19 I went to meeting in the evening with Mr Edward Gates, to Pearl street young peoples meeting then to Centre church and heard Dr. Hahuse deliver a lecture to young ladies.
Tue Dec 21 Mr Wilson called and gave me a music lesson.
Wed Dec 24 Mrs Lee and I attended Christ church, it was trimmed plain, but very neat and pretty. Mr Abercrombe is pastor. The church itself is very neatly but plainly built and is situated on the corner of Church and Main streets. They have an excellent choir of singers considered the best in Hartford. Mrs Wilson is organist & Mrs Preston formerly Miss (H-------) of Boston assisted by other good singers, completes the choir.
Thu Dec 25 Mrs Lee and I arose at 4 o'clock and attended mass in the Catholic church. It is a beautiful church and said to be the nicest in New England it is situated on Church street and will accomodate 3 or 4,000 persons at one time. Father Hues is the Priest. At half past 10 we attended Christ church and in the evening I attended a panorama of Italy with Mr E Gates. Mr Lee made me a present of a purse and Julian presented me a bonnet comb.
Sun Dec 26 I attended Christ church in the forenoon with Julian Gates. Pearl St in the afternoon and North Baptist evening with E. Gates.
