December 1870

Thur Dec 1 Pleasant. Mrs Eliza Dickerson called.

Fri Dec 2 Pleasant. Mr Lincoln, the Architect for the new Hotel came here to-night.

Sat Dec 3 Pleasant. Mr Lincoln went over to Capt.. Dickinsen's to-night. Bell & Lilla Ely came here this evening from the Silver Star.

Sun Dec 4 1870 Pleasant. This P.M. Bell, Lilla, Archie & I went to hear the Rev. Mr McCall Preach. Liked him very much, visited Lady Fenwick's grave.

Mon Dec 5 Cloudy, think we shall have a storm very soon. Bell & Lilla took the boat at 4:15 A.M.

Tue Dec 6 Pleasant. Rained little in the morning. Father & Mother Lord called. This evening Mr & Mrs Samuel Lord called.

Wed Dec 7 Very pleasant. The Rev. Mr McCall & second daughter called.

Thur Dec 8 Pleasant.

Fri Dec 9 Growing cold. Henry went to N.Y. to-night on the boat. Mr Hurlburlt called. Willie came down.

Sat Dec 10 Windy & growing cold. Henry came home at midnight.

Sun Dec 11 Cloudy. Evening Henry, Archie & I called over to Capt.. Dickinsons. Mr Lincoln came here from the boat.

Mon Dec 12 A stormy day.

Tue Dec 13 Cloudy most of the day. Made a rag carpet for the kitchen.

Wed Dec 14 Pleasant. Mr Lincoln went to Hartford to-night. Willie came, brought me some things from home.

Thur Dec 15 Wind blew very hard.

Fri Dec 16 Wind blew not quite as hard as day before, but it is growing cold.

Sat Dec 17 Cold, considerable ice on the river.

Sun Dec 18 Windy & cold. Henry went up to Brockway's ferry & met Mother on this side & she came home with him. Archie & I rode to church, when he went up, and walked back.

Mon Dec 19 Pleasant. Cloudy this evening. Henry started for Hartford.

Tue Dec 20 Cold. Mother, Archie & I called on Mrs Rankin & Mrs Ingraham & I called on Mrs Burger. Henry came home on the midnight train & we set up for him.

Wed Dec 21 Cold. Mother cleaned & I stitched on the machine.

Thur Dec 22 Cloudy some. Mother washed & I worked about the house putting down carpet &c. Mr Starkey called this evening.

Fri Dec 23 Cold, snowed. Did not do much, but try to keep warm.

Sat Dec 24 Cold. Could not keep warm in my room with coal grate, so I bought a stove and put it up this eve. Had a Christmas tree. Received a nice castor & other nice presents. Henry a nice pair of suspenders, for Henry, that I commenced to embroider over a year ago.

Sun Dec 25 Christmas. Clear, cold. We did not go out, had chicken pie for supper.

Mon Dec 26 Cold. Mother washed. Henry carried her as far as Michaels, opposite home, this evening, and she crossed in a boat on the ice.

Tue Dec 27 Not quite as cold.

Wed Dec 28 Snowed. Father Lord spent last night with us, I ironed some.

Thur Dec 29 Snowed.

Fri Dec 30 Cold. Henry went up home after his sleigh & Bell came home with him.

Sat Dec 31 Pleasant, snow melted fast. My 34th birthday. This ends the year of 1870.
