January 1871

Sun Jan l 1871 Pleasant. Henry & Bell went to church this P.M. Mr & Mrs Edgar Dickinson called this evening.

Mon Jan 2 Pleasant day, cloudy this evening. Bell & I sewed most of the time. Uncle Silvester Slate called this A.M. and presented us with a nice fat goose. A New Year's present.

Tue Jan 3 Pleasant. Bell & I washed. I cleaned some. Evening Mrs William's and daughter Amelia called. Willie came down from home.

Thur Jan 5 Cloudy. Bell had the teeth ache all day. Ironed & finished off some embroidery I had commenced for a night dress.

Fri Jan 6 Mild & rainy. Mr Lincoln here to 5 o'clock supper, had roast goose. Invited Mr (Har----) to come, but he could not. Willie went home.

Sat Jan 7 Clear, rather cold, but pleasant for the season. Archie & I went home with Bell & spent 4 hours. Left Bell there & took Eddie home with us. Called at Philenda's on our way up. Crossed the ice at the ferry on foot. I slipped down once.

Sun Jan 8 Cold. Some snow squalls. Old game rooster died.

Mon Jan 9 A very cold day. I washed & ironed some and cut out a suit for Archie. Willie came to-night, is going to work at the Hotel and board with us.

Tue Jan 10 Cold. Eddie went over onto the neck, then went home. I did housework.

Wed Jan 11 Cloudy. Finished ironing, baked some & sewed some.

Thur Jan 12 Very pleasant, cleaned around some. This P.M. Archie & I called at Mrs Williams. Received a letter from Bell.

Fri Jan 13 A very pleasant day.

Sat Jan 14 Pleasant. Loss & Ellen came down from East Haddam.

Sun Jan 15 Pleasasnt morning, cloudy rest of the day, rained little at night. Loss & Ellen left to-night to go far as Essex. Willie went home.

Mon Jan 16 Rainy. I sewed. Willie came back to-night.

Tue Jan 17 Pleasant. I did a large washing. Mr Lincoln came here.

Wed Jan 18 Cloudy some. I ironed my clothes and baked some. Mr Lincoln went back to Hartford to-night.

Thur Jan 19 Pleasant. I sewed most of the day after 11 o'clock. Mrs Beryer & brother, Mr Edward (Blayur) called this evening.

Fri Jan 20 Cloudy little, not very cold. This P.M. Henry, Archie & I went to Westbrook to Mr Wilcox shoe store. Called at Mr Samuel Lord's on our return.

Sat Jan 21 Cloudy part of the day & pleasant the rest. Snows this evening. Baked some.

Sun Jan 22 Snowed last night & blows & is cold today. 9th anniversary of our wedding today.

Mon Jan 23 Cloudy & very cold. Commenced to snow again to-night.

Tue Jan 24 Snowed.

Wed Jan 25 Pleasant. Henry went home & Mother came back with him. Mrs Abby LaPlace died Sunday night and is to be buried tomorrow. She was 80 years old.

Thur Jan 26 A very cold day and snowed nearly all the time. Thermometer below zero.

Sat Jan 27 Pleasant. Deep snow on the ground. Henry helped break paths.

Sun Jan 28 Pleasant.

Mon Jan 30 Pleasant. We washed, Mother & I. Father Lord called. Willie came with him.

Tue Jan 31 1871 Cloudy, commenced to rain this P.M. Made mince pies.
