Sat Jul 1 Was a warm day. I went up to Caroline Miner's and spent the afternoon. Mr Wm Brockway came here. Uncle Horace and Elmer took dinner here.
Mon Jul 3 A very warm day the thermometer stood up at 95. We washed in the forenoon, in the afternoon Oscar carried Mother to Hamburgh and back. Mr Miner and Elizabeth Brockway called they came from the "Cricket". Mr LaPlace and Mr Libby came down with them.
Tue Jul 4 The 4 of Jul Came on Tuesday and was a very warm day, the thermometer stood at 96. The "Island Belle" went on an excursion from East Haddam to Sag Harbor there was over 30 went from this place, no one but Oscar went from here. The "Granite State" went on an excursion to New London. Ellen, Isabel, Celia Brockway and Ellen LaPlace went up to wintergreen island and had a picnic. Isabel went home with Ellen LaPlace to spend the night. We had green peas for the first time this season. Elizabeth Banning and Mr Libby called here just at night.
Wed Jul 5 The thermostat stood at 98. Elizabeth Banning called, she took the boat for Middletown.
Thu Jul 6 A warm day. In the morning I crossed the river and went down to Mrs Tileys and spent the day. Emily cut me a dress. Mrs LaPlace and Mrs Damon spent the afternoon with Mother. Caroline Chapel spent the night with Isabel.
Fri Jul 7 A warm day. I commenced to work on a skirt.
Sat Jul 8 It was about as warm as it has been but the wind blew fresh southward which made it more comfortable. We received a letter from Aunt Emeline, she has gone to sea with Uncle Jacob, they have started for Calcutta.
Sun Jul 9 A cloudy day, towards night it sprinkled some and in the night there was showers.
Mon Jul 10 Was a cloudy day, rained some early in the morning. Mr (Shaddick) and Mr Hull was here and took dinner, they came down in the "Island Belle" from Middletown and went back in the "Cricket". Mother went up to Mrs LaPlaces and spent the afternoon. Laura Tooker came home with Ellen from school.
Thu Jul 13 A pleasant day, clouded up at night. I went up to Emma Miners and spent the afternoon. Caroline Miner was there. We called at Frank LaPlaces, he has got him a new Melodeon.
Fri Jul 14 A rainy day. The children did not go to school. Uncle Ansel was here to dinner he came from Hartford in the "Island Belle".
Sun Jul 16 In the morning it was foggy, but that soon cleared away and it was warm through the day. Towards night I called up to Frank LaPlaces.
Mon Jul 17 A warm day. We washed. In the evening there was a party went to Essex after ice cream. Heber and I went.
Tue Jul 18 Another warm day. In the forenoon I ironed, in the afternoon did not do too much of anything it was so warm, but towards night I went a whortleberrying and picked about two quarts.
Wed Jul 19 Another warm day. Jane Harrison spent the day here.
Thu Jul 20 A warm day. In the morning I went a whortleberrying and picked 3 pints, at night there was a thundershower but not much rain fell here.
Tue Jul 25 A showery day, first a shower and then the sun would shine. In the afternoon I finished working my skirt.
Wed Jul 26 A cloudy day. Heber carried Mother and Ellen to Essex, he brought Mother back at night, Ellen stayed.
Thu Jul 27 A pleasant day. Mother spent the afternoon at Mrs Miners. Ellen came home at night. Celia and Jane L.......... came home with her.
Fri Jul 28 Another pleasant day. In the forenoon went a whortleberrying and picked 4 qts. Celia and Jane went home at night. Ernest went home with Albert Ely from school and I went over at night.
Sat Jul 29 It was showery through the forenoon, in the afternoon cleared off and I went down to the (store, shore?) and called to Lucy Ann Brockway's and Aunt Rhoda's and then came home. Capt. Tooker and (Edgecum) Beckwith came down from Middletown in the "Cricket", (Edgecum) has been sick with the cholera.
