Tue Jul 3 A pleasant day. I made Ellen a black silk apron. At night Oscar took the steamboat to Middletown the next night he took the cars to Hartford, and on Thursday night came home on the Granite State
Wed Jul 4 It was pleasant in the morning, then came fogged up but it cleared away after a while, but it was cloudy through the day, and quite comfortable for the season. The sloop Gen. ( Kossuth), Capt.. Chas Hayden. went on an excursion to Greenport L. I. I went with John Damon there was 31 in all besides children. We left home about 8 o'clock in the morning - lay at Saybrook till 2 and arrived in Greenport about 6 at night. We went to the Wyandank hotel, in the evening we attended a fair, on our way back to the hotel we called to the ice cream salon and got some ice cream.
Wed Jul 5 It rained quite hard in the morning and some the night before. After breakfast Harriet LaPlace, Emma Warner & I took a walk up town. I bought some Gingham for a sunbonnet, and a blank book to write my journal in. We left Greenport about 11 A.M. and arrived home about 5 P.M. having had a very pleasant trip. Ellen spent the 4 in Essex.
Fri Jul 6 A thunder-shower in the morning, and cloudy most of the day, and foggy and rainy in the evening. I attended the Society at Emma Warners.
Mon Jul 9 It was cloudy in the morning and cool, but cleared off pleasant. I went over to Aunt Mary Ann's. Kate Ely and Vici Hinman were there. I went home with Kate and spent the night.
Tue. Jul 10 It was cloudy most of the day, and quite cool. I came home about nooon, and afternoon I commenced to set a bed quilt together.
Wed Jul 11 It was cloudy most of the day. Mother spent the afternoon at Mrs Frank LaPlaces.
Fri Jul 13 It was foggy and cloudy in the morning but quite pleasant in the afternoon. I went up to Harriet LaPlaces intending to spend the afternoon but Mother sent for me as she had company, and I came home and found Mrs Louisa Post and little boy and Mr Young and wife here. The night before Mr Wm Brockway had his flock of sheep, 20 in number, destroyed by the dogs.
Sat Jul 14 Was a pleasant day. I went down to Saybrook with a party, there was 19 of us we went down in a sailboat and took dinner at the Fenwick House, we started for home in the afternoon, stopped at Essex and got some ice-cream, and arrived in the evening.
Mon Jul 16 It was foggy and cloudy throught the day. Mother went to Essex and bought me a new plain straw hat trimmed with white, whole cost $3.75 cts. She also bought me some plain pink muslin for a waist.
Wed 18 A very warm day a shower in the afternoon. I went to Hamburgh. Kate cut my waist for me and I came home at night.
Thu Jul 19 Another very warm day. I finished my waist in the forenoon and attended the Society in the aftermoon at Mrs Selden Warner's.
Fri Jul 20 A cloudy day, rained some. Mr Prentis and family landed from the steamboat and called here. Mrs Phelps and (Orie) called here at night.
Sat Jul 21 A cloudy day. I went up to Harriet LaPlaces and spent the afternoon. Eliza Wms was boarding there. I called over to Emma Warner's, her little brother, Erastus Selden was 3 years old. Miss Lucy Marten died the night before of the consumption, aged 33.
Wed Jul 25 Cloudy in the forenoon, in the afternoon cloudy some and very warm. A thunder shower the night before. We washed. I received a letter from Victoria Hinman. There was a picnic I did not go to.
Thu Jul 26 A warm day with a shower in the afternoon. Ellen LaPlace came to spend the night with Isabel.
Fri Jul 27 Another warm day. Mother went up to Mrs Jonathan LaPlaces and spent the afternoon, she took the baby with her. Augusta came home from school with Isabel to spend the night.
Sat Jul 28 A cloudy day, I sewed some towards night went a whortleberrying and picked 8 pints. Mrs Miner had a daughter born.
Sun Jul 29 Cloudy most of the day.
Mon Jul 30 Another cloudy day. We washed. Edna Jane throwed our kitten into a pail of boiling, hot water, and I throwed it into the river and drowned it.
Tue. Jul 31 It was cloudy most of the day, the sun shone out hot for a little while then clouded in again, rained a little. In the forenoon I ironed some and sewed some, afternoon I went up on the hill a picked 2 qts. of whortleberries. Celia B came to spend the night with Ellen.
