Wed Aug 1 Was a warm day. I went over to Mrs Louisa Posts and spent the afternoon Rebecca Tiley was there. I rowed over and back in a boat. Harriet LaPlace called here about noon.
Thu Aug 2 A warm day. Mr Prentis and family called her also Mrs Hungerford the Brockway's Jane was home she is 19 years old the day before. Celia, Jane, Julia Harrison, Ebenezer Brockway and I called up to Mrs Mitchell's.
Fri Aug 3 A warm day, foggy in the morning. In the forenoon Celia Brockway, Ellen and I went up by Mr Mitchells a whortleberrying. Aunt Rhoda and Mother went up to Mrs Laplaces and spent the afternoon. Aunt Rhoda spent the night at Mr. Ezekiel Brockways.
Sat Aug 4 A warm day. Aunt Rhoda came here in the afternoon & Oscar carried her home. Mother went to Hamburgh with her, they met Uncle Horace & Heber coming up here,
Sun Aug 5 A pleasant day. I went to meeting, Mr Loveland had a 5 o'clock meeting.
Mon Aug 6 Was a pleasant day, rained the night before: sprinkled to night. Lucy (Bann's) baby was buried.
Tue Aug 7 A pleasant day. Towards night I called up to Emma Warner's.
Wed Aug 8 A pleasant day. Harriet Tooker called her she took the steamboat to Middletown. Monday before Jeanette (Brown) was married to John Beckwith and started to go west with him.
Thu Aug 9 Cloudy in the forenoon and rained a little rained some the night before pleasant in the afternoon - shower in the evening. I went to Mrs Brockways to the Society, stayed in the evening and Emma Warner came home with me and spent the night.
Fri Aug 10 Was a pleasant day quite cool for the season - the wind blew quite hard in the morning Emma and I called over to Mrs Louisa Posts. Oscar went over with us in a sail boat, a stranger went with us too, he gave Emma and I a nice sweet apple. He took dinner here, then went on board the ²Cricket². Leona Chapel & Caroline LaPlace called here in the afternoon & Emma went home when they did. Mother went over to Aunt Mary Ann's to spend the night.
Fri Aug 11 A pleasant day. Mother came home at night. I baked some & sewed some.
Sun Aug 12 A pleasant day. Edna Jane was 2 years old. Towards night Mother and I called up to Mrs Miner. Caroline Warner & John were there.
Tue Aug 14 Was a warm day. It rained in the afternoon - went up to Mrs Abby Phelpses and spent the afternoon. Caroline Warner was there.
Wed Aug 15 It was cloudy most of the day. Mrs Jonathan LaPlace spent the afternoon here.
Thu Aug 16 Was a cloudy warm day. I went up to Mrs Henry LaPlaces and went a whortleberrying with Caroline LaPlace and her mother & Emma Warner went too.
Fri Aug 17 It was cloudy most of the day but warm. I went to Saybrook with a party from here, we took supper on the camp ground - called to Mrs David Warner on our way back. After I got home I went a sailing with Mary Marten, Celia Brockway, John Damon, Charles Warner, Oscar and Ellen in the yacht Wonder.
Tue. Aug 211 Pleasant. I ironed some in the forenoon, towards night called up to Emma Warner's. The ²Cricket² stopped and took on board Mr Tiffany and wife and two gentlemen and landed Harriet Tooker, Mrs Orvel, and Mrs Laura Birdsey and little boy, she lost a baby the Saturday before most 13 months old. I received a letter from Martha Hinman.Wed Aug 22 Cloudy most of the day. Capt.. Banning called here and I picked him a boquet.
Thu Aug 23 Was a cloudy day. Mrs Harrison, Ellen & I went down to the sandbank in a boat then walked down to Mrs Beebe's to the Society. Came home in a boat.
Fri Aug 24 A warm day. Emma Warner and I went a whortleberrying,I picked 8 qts. and Emma 6.
Sat Aug 26 A pleasant day. Isabel and I went down to Aunt Emma's and Pitt brought us home in the evening in a boat & Oscar went home with him.
Mon Aug 27 It was cludy most of the day. We washed. Mrs Birdsey & Mrs (C--el) took the steamboat for Middletown, they called here.
Tue Aug 28 a pleasant day. I spent the afternoon at Emma Warner's, her mother and Mrs Cleveland visited at Mr Jonathan LaPlaces.
Wed Aug 29 Was a pleasant day. Miss Elizabeth Banning & Clarissa Gillet called here they landed from the Cricket. Ellen went up to Celia Brockways to spend the afternoon. Kate Ely came here at night.
Thu Aug 30 A pleasant day. Father & Oscar went to Saybrook. Uncle Horace and Cousin Jms Ely called here. Toward night Kate and I called up at Miss (Mitchal), on our way back we called at MrsChapel.
Fri Aug 31 The last day of summer, it was very cool in the morning & pleasant through the day - in the evening a little cloudy. Kate left for home in the morning. In the evening I attended a concert in Essex, I went with Carlos Warner Betsy Beebe, John Damon, Mr (Brownell), Mr David Warner, (-------) Warner & John Beebe went too. 4 gentlemen appeared as the "Continental of 1776" it was well worth hearing, I arrived home about 12 o'clock.Return to Home Page, Diary Index, July, or September
