Wed Nov 4 It has been a very pleasant day. I have been in chelsea 2 weeks and have enjoyed myself nicely. I have been to the city of est, and as one looks from these windows the eye wanders, far away over the bay, and also the cities of Boston, East Boston, Chelsea, Charlestown and adjacent cities and vilages. In a small building near the monument built of granite as is the monument is a statute of Gen. Warren, and in the monument are many field pieces that were used in the time of the war. We saw also the spot where Warren fell. From there we proceeded over the bridge to Boston had our Ambrotypes taken and exchanged, then returned toest, and as one looks from these windows the eye wanders, far away over the bay, and also the cities of Boston, East Boston, Chelsea, Charlestown and adjacent cities and vilages. Elsie is preparing to go to Staten Island to spend the winter with her sister. I received a letter from, Harriet and Caroline LaPlace, Emma Warner, H Tooker, Philenda Williams, and Philippi Doane. Emma wrote me her Aunt Nancy had a son born a week ago Friday. I have taken my 5 music lesson to-day. It is now dark and I cannot see the line and I will leave my journal till another time, and I have really neglected it so far, for I have seen a number of things quite interesting, but time will not allow me to record them now. Later--------- Aunt E's Grandmother took tea here and spent the evening, and her son Geo called and escorted her home. Mrs Jenkins, Aunt E's sister and her brother Alden are intending to spend the night here. Henry spent the evening here.
Thu Nov 5 I received a letter from Mother and Ellen which was long and interesting.
Mon Nov 9 We, Aunt Emeline and I washed. I took up the carpet in the sitting room, cleaned the room and placed the carpet back again. In the evening Elsie Bradford and Mr William Francis, and Henry Bradford spent the eve here. James Lewis is quite sick with the inflamation on the lungs.
Tue Nov 18 I received a letter from Wm Pitt Ely, he writes they are to have their annual hunt in Joshuatown day after tomorrow. James Lewis is now slowly recovering. He has been very sick and I feared last Saturday night he would not live till morning, but he is spared.
Wed Nov 18 I received a letter from Caroline Miner, her Mother and Hattie have been sick but are now better. A man from a vessel that was laying at Brockway's Ferry, fell from a walnut tree in Dixon Hollow and broke his leg and put his arm out of joint. A son of Mr Wm Banning's in South Lyme fell from a tree & broke his neck, another boy was accidentaly shot while out a gunning, by one of his companions. There was a fire just back of here this evening. Aunt E went to the door with Willie Cragin and she said to him "Willie is is lighter now than it was when you came in" and a man in the street replied "Well, you are all afire behind." and she a little frightened asked "Where, where, in what street." But he was in such haste that he kept on unmindful of her inquiries, but as it happens it is not very near us.
Tue. Nov 24 For the first time in my life I have been a little homesick this evening, but should not be now were it not for my music lesson, which has tried me a little for the first time.
Wed Nov 25 The post boy brought me 4 letters this morning, one was from Mother in which was one enclosed from Joseph Warner, Marguette Mich. he wrote that he had written me several letters which he had received no answer to.
