Wed Dec 2 I have been her 7 weeks still I can hardly realize it. I received a letter from Ellen today, she wrote that Heber had been sick but was better and thought of going to Savannah to spend the winter. Mr Frances spent the eve here.
Tue Dec 8 A pleasant day: in the afternoon Aunt Emeline & I went to Boston and back.
Thu Dec 17 A cloudy day, rained some. I attended a lecture in the evening before the Chelsea Library Associaton by Henry Giles, Esq.
Sun Dec 20 A attend meeting in the Baptist church this noon, Mr Mason preached. Evening attended meeting in the Hospital, after which I went to the Baptist church and heard Mr Mason deliver a lecture on Temperance. Mr Frances took tea here. Mr Cook and wife called.
Thu Dec 24 Eve. attended a concert before the Chelsea Library Association.
Fri Dec 25 I got breakfast in the morning, practiced my music lesson till 12 o'clock when my teacher called and gave me another. Soon after Mrs Cook, Mrs Ecton, Henry Bradford and wife called, then came our dinner. In the afternoon Aunt Eme. and I prepared ourselves to go out - went to Mrs Cooks and called and from there went to Boston to witness a couple married in Trinity church. The couple were Matthew W. Smith of N.Y. and Miss Libby of this city, there was a leeve of the brides father's afterwards and over 800 invitations were sent out. At half past 8 Aunt E and I went over to Mrs Cragins to see Leotty as she was dressed for the leeve. Mr Frances spent the eve here, we walked out down past the house where the leeve was held, the house stood at the corner of Chestnut and Wiliams St.
Mon Dec 28 I received a letter from Heber he is in Savannah. They were 8 days going from N.Y. there and experienced a severe gale. He wrote as follows: "If the gale had lasted three hours longer I should not have been here, but in the salt water."
Thu Dec 31 The last day of the year of Our Lord 1857 and my 21st birth day. It is rainy and very wet walking. I have been most sick with a cold, but it is better now. .Return to Home Page, Diary Index, October, or January 1858
