November-December 1865
Wed Nov 1 1865 Pleasant, Henry went back on Sunshine. Afternoon I went to Ellen's.
Fri Nov 3 Mother sick with a cold and swollen face.
Sat Nov 4 Mother better. Stormy. Finished off Edna's dress.
Mon Nov 13 Ellen's baby, John Heber, 3 weeks old & weighs 11 lbs. Mr Albert Boyce died of Typhoid Fever, aged 49 years.
Tue Nov 14 Went to Hamburgh with baby. Spent forenoon at Lucy Ann's, afternoon attended Mr. Boyce's funeral at the Church.
Wed Nov 15 Pleasant.
Thur Nov 16 Baby & I took another ride to Hamburgh. Called at Aunt Mary Ann's she & Augusta are both sick. Very Pleasant.
Fri Nov 17 Foggy.
Sat Nov 18 Pleasant. Ellen 25 years old.
Sat Dec 2 1865 Came to East Haddam with Archie & our pony. Ellen Ely moved up to Hezekiels.
Thu Dec 5 Loss, Ellen & I took a ride to the landing.
Wed Dec 6 Evening Henry came home from Hartford.
Thur Dec 7 National & yearly Thanksgiving. Party & supper here at Ellen's. Loss went for Bell, she came up & it snowed and was bad traveling, cleared off cold in the evening. Oscar & Nell married in Norwich.
Fri Dec 8 Morning Henry left for Hartford, should have gone with him but it was too cold & I have a sore throat.
Sat Dec 9 Was sick all day. Evening Capt. Hirum Dibble drowned in Old Lyme.
Sun Dec 10 1865 Felt a little better, so afternoon Bell & I started for home with the pony. It was very bad traveling and the pony slipped down once coming, however we arrived here in good time, safe & sound.
Mon Dec 11 Helped wash in the forenoon, afternoon had a dreadful headache & sore throat, went to bed & took (s------).
Tue Dec 12 Bride & Groom arrived home evening. Felt better in the morning, but afternoon had an awful headache, took a dose of pills in the evening & went to bed.
Fri Dec 15 Morning Bell & I went to Deep River to take the steamboat to Hartford, but as she did come up in season we returned at 1/2 past 2. Lewis went with us. The ice made fast we had to break through part of the way.
Mon Dec 25 Ellen & Loss down. A Christmas tree at the school house. Lizzie Lord married.Return to Home Page, Diary Index, September
