Augsut 1870

Mon Aug 1 A warm day. Henry went to Hartford. Loss & Ellen and Nancy Mack called just at night. John Emmon's & Ellen LaPlace took tea here.

Tue Aug 2 Mother went to Middletown and Bell to Hartford. Not quite as warm as yesterday. I canned some fruit and baked some, took care of Mrs Warner's children this P.M., for her to go to Hadlyme.

Wed Aug 3 Not quite as warm, cloudy this P.M. oss, Ellen & Nancy Mack spent the afternoon. Bell went to Hartford with Hattie Emmons.

Thur Aug 4 Rained little to-night, the first rain that has falled for a long time. Every thing is very dry.

Fri Aug 5 A warm day. P.M. Eddie, Mother & I went to Deep River came down this evening. Mrs McLean, Aunt Emeline's sister, is visiting her from Washington.

Sat Aug 6 Warm. Mother, Archie & I went to Hamburgh. Archie and I spent the forenoon at Lucy Ann's & afternoon at Kate's. Mother went to Uncle Wm's. Went over in a boat and returned with a team. Mrs June Clark died aged 54 years.

Sun Aug 7 Very warm.

Mon Aug 8 Another very warm day. Henry came home to-night on Star, been gone a week today. Hattie Black came down from Glastonbury to visit Bell.

Tue Aug 9 Still warm. Frank Williams came down from Deep River with his Aunt Mrs McLean, to call & I went home with them.

Wed Aug 10 Rained little in the morning. We attended a wedding in the Baptist church. James McQuinne of Waterbury was married to Louise Sheriden of Deep River. Took dinner at Mr David Young's and came home in a boat with Father Lord.

Thur Aug 11 Showery. Dr. Foster of Hadlyme died night before last.

Fri Aug 12 1870 Warm, thunder shower in the afternoon & rained very hard for a short time. Bell & I went to Hartford on Silver Star. Bell went to New Britian & back. Spent the night at the U.S. Hotel.

Sat Aug 13 Cloudy, rained some to-night. Came home on the Star to-night.

Sun Aug 14 Rained last night & some this morning. To-night Henry, Archie & i went to East Haddam & back, broke one wheel to the wagon on our way home. Mrs Thomas Anderson buried.

Mon Aug 15 Pleasant. Henry went to Hartford. Old cow went off last night and Ed went cow hunting to-day.

Tue Aug 16 Pleasant. Uncle Jacob, Aunt Emeline, George & Charlie & Mrs McLean & Eddie & Charlie spent the day here. Ed went cow hunting again and came home with her this noon.

Wed Aug 17 Pleasant. Aunt Rhoda came over this morning. Aunt Emma Ely & Henry called this evening.

Thur Aug 18 Warm. Uncle Horace came after Aunt Rhoda to-night. Henry West Ely & Arthur called. Good Templars had a picnic in Birch grove. Edna went.

Fri Aug 19 Warm. Henry came home on the Star.

Sat Aug 20 Warm. Bell & Eddie went to Hartford. Thunder shower between 3 & 4 o'clock P.M. Oscar came home while it was raining the hardest from Milford.

Sun Aug 21 Pleasant, warm as usual. Loss came down.

Mon Aug 22 Pleasant. Went to Saybrook on a clam bake. Oscar went far as Lyme Ferry with us. Loss & Ellen & Millie went. Took dinner in a grove on Light House Point. Willie Lord joined us at Lyme Ferry. Nett took the boat in the morning.

Tue Aug 23 Washed. Mother & Ed went to Essex & back. Henry went to Hartford on Silver Star.

Wed Aug 24 Warm. Ironed & sewed.

Thur Aug 25 Cloudy most of the day, but very warm. Mother & Ed went to Hamburgh & back, heard that Mrs Martha Purport of New Haven died last Thursday of (Pa-al--ys). Thunder shower this evening.

Fri Aug 26 Very pleasant. Libbie Ely came over to-night to spent the night and take the boat in the morning for Windsor.

Sat Aug 27 Pleasant. Quite cool. Mother & Bell went to Hartford & back on the Star. Henry came home this evening.

Sun Aug 28 Pleasant. Just at night Bell, Edna, Henry, Archie & I took a walk to the Shippee farm and brought home some apples.

Mon Aug 29 Warm. Henry went to Saybrook & back.

Tue Aug 30 Warm. Sewed on Edna's blue empress cloth dress. Miss Nancy Martin & Celia Brockway called, Henry went to Hartford.

Wed Aug 31 Pleasant.
