February 1871

Wed Feb 1 Cloudy, came off pleasant this evening, rained little towards night.

Thur Feb 2 Pleasant morning, cloudy the rest of the day, foggy to-night. Mr Starkey & Mr Comstock called this evening.

Fri Feb 3 Cloudy some of the time, came off cold to-night. Mr Wm Bates spent part of the day here.

Sat Feb 4 A very cold day.

Sun Feb 5 Coldest day of the season yet.

Mon Feb 6 Cold. Henry got ready to do to Hartford, but as I was not well he did not go. Mr Starkey called this evening.

Tue Feb 7 A pleasant day. Dr. Grannis here through the day. Mrs Williams here most of the day. Gave birth to a daughter at 3:20 P.M. a seven pounder. Henry left on the 6 P.M. train for Hartford on business, left me quite comfortable.

Wed Feb 8 Snowed in the morning, cloudy the rest of the day. Henry came home on the noon train. I was quite comfortable.

Thur Feb 9 Cloudy most of the day. Mother washed. Dr. Called.

Fri Feb 10 Clear, but windy. The schooner Oliver Cromwell sunk on the bar. Am very comfortable. Mrs Eliza Dickenson called, also the Missus Amelia and Bell Williams.

Sat Feb 11 Pleasant. The Dr. called, thinks he shall not need to call again as I am doing well. Billie went home to-night in a sleigh.

Sun Feb 12 Snowed all day.

Mon Feb 13 Snowed in the morning, cleared off pleasant, good sleighing.

Tue Feb 14 Snowed all day & evening & most of last night. It is very cold. Baby one week old and getting along nicely. Not much doing on the Hotel grounds this weather.

Wed Feb 15 Pleasant. Mother washed. I am gaining rapidly, as could be expected. Mended little today.

Thur Feb 16 Cloudy some, pleasant towards night. Blustering in the evening. Set up considerable. Henry left for Hartford on the noon train.

Fri Feb 17 A very pleasant day. Father & Mother Lord took dinner here. Came to see their first grandaughter. I was dressed for the first time since she was born and set up nearly all day. Am feeling quite smart.

Sat Feb 18 A very stormy day. Wind blew so hard we could not have any fire in the kitchen during the forenoon. Henry came home from Hartford on the morning train, which arrives here at 1/2 past 9 A.M.

Sun Feb 19 Very pleasant till just at night when there was a snow squall. I was sick all day with a headache and did not sit up any.

Mon Feb 20 Pleasant. Cloudy at night. Snowed little during the following night. Henry went to Hartford on the 8 A.M. train. Am better today & dressed again. Wrote a letter to Bell.

Tue Feb 21 Snowed little last night & was cloudy in the morning, but cleared off and was pleasant the rest of the day. Baby two weeks old. Henry came home from Hartford this morning.

Wed Feb 22 Pleasant. Henry went off on an expedition after piles for the new bridge. I sewed some.

Thur Feb 23 Pleasant. Henry came home to-night, spent the night at Oscar's. Mother sat the table in my room to-night. I sat to it for the first time since before the baby was born. Archie's sixth birthday, I made him a present of a book called "The Swiss Robinson Family."

Fri Feb 24 18711 Pleasant. Thawed some. Commenced to piece a bed quilt, Irish Chain.

Sat Feb 25 Pleasant. Snow fast disappearing. Sewed some. Willie went to Lyme to-night. Received a letter from Edna.

Sun Feb 26 Rainy.

Mon Feb 27 Cloudy some. Baby got a hard cold & coughs a great deal. Went out into conservatory & looked at the planets found one more (-------).

Tue Feb 28 A very pleasant day to close up the season. Mother washed. Baby's cold about the same not any worse I think. Am feeling pretty smart Dressed the baby for the first time and did the work in my room. Tended baby & pieced two blocks , besides little other sewing.
