March 1871

Wed March 1 Pleasant. Mother ironed. Mrs William's and daughter Lizzie & May called this evening.

Thur March 2 Very pleasant. Father Lord called. Mother went to the P.O. & back.

Fri March 3 A rainy day. Was sick last night with a cold and am not much better today. My throat is quite sore.

Sat March 4 Pleasant morning, than snowed & rained some, a hail storm to-night. Henry went to the depot with Mr North during the hail shower. Mother washed some.

Sun March 5 Very pleasant. Henry went to church this P.M. Mother & Archie went over to Mrs William'es this evening and brought over a cradle to rock the baby in.

Mon March 6 Cloudy most of the time & rained part of the day. Mother washed, but did not hang her clothes out. Henry went to Lyme & back.

Tue March 7 Pleasant. Belle 4 weeks old & weighs 10 3/4 lbs. Went out of my room for the first time since she was born, exciting to go into the conservatory which joins my room. Have some headache & am not feeling quite as well to-day. Willie went home this A.M.

Wed March 8 Pleasant. Mother received a letter from Bell. The directors of the New Saybrook Hotel were down from Hartford. Dr. Grannis called this evening to see me, am afraid I am going to have a broken breast, hope he can prevent it. Cloudy to-night, prospect of storm. Mother received a letter from Edna also.

Thur March 9 Hard shower about 4 or 5 A.M. Pleasant the rest of the day. Am feeling about the same. Wrote a letter to Ellen.

Fri March 10 Rainy morning, clouded off this P.M. My breast is worse, Dr. called. Henry went off after timber. I could not sit up much.

Sat March 11 Pleasant morning, rainy afternoon. Henry to (-----------) from Moodus, he would be home tomorrow. Was sick all day, did not sit up much & breast pained me.

Sun March 12 A rainy day. Henry did not come. Dr. called, am trying heat and moisture for my breast now. Am feeling more comfortable to-day than yesterday, but my breast is no better. Mother had lame back last night, but feels some better today.

Mon March 13 Pleasant for the season. Did not feel as well. Henry arrived home about noon. Stormed, so that he stopped at Loss over Sunday. Father Lord called, also Mr Edward Brockway.

Tue March 14 Pleasant. Breast pained me so I did not sleep much last night, but I am quite comfortable today, more so than any day for a week. Henry & Archie went to Essex & back. Dr. Grannis called.

Wed March 15 Rainy. Eddie came down, am about the same. Belle worrysome.

Thur March 16 Cloudy & windy. Dr. Grannis called, am feeling more comfortable today.

Fri March 17 1871 A misty day. Henry went to Hartford on the six P.M. traim. Am about the same.

Sat March 18 Rainy. am feeling little more comfortable. Willie came down to-night. Dr. called.

Sun March 19 A pleasant day. Eddie & Archie went to Centerbrook and Libbie Lord returned with them to stay a few days. Willie went to Lyme to-night.

Mon March 20 Pleasant. Cloudy at night. Am more comfortable. Mrs Dickinson called.

Tue March 21 Very rainy morning, cloudy some to-night. Miss Amelia & Belle Williams called. Dr. called. Henry came home from Hartford on the boat to-night. He has sold out his interest in the New Saybrook Hotel Co. and left the Company.

Wed March 22 Pleasant. Did not feel quite as well. Mother got ready to go home, but Jimmie's back was sore & Henry could not get a horse, so she did not go.

Thur March 23 Cloudy most of the day. Henry went home with Mother & Eddie today. Mother has been here eight weeks & one day. Dr. called made an incision in my breast, but found no matter. Mr & Mrs Rankin called this evening.

Fri March 24 Clear, but windy. Did not feel quite as well.

Sat March 25 Blustering. Father Lord called & Henry went to Lyme with him. Dr. called. Am feeling better than I did yesterday.

Sun March 26 Rather cold. Henry & Archie went up home & back. Mr Ed Ingraham called on Libbie. Edna arrived home from school to-night.

Mon March 27 Snowed & rained in the morning. Cloudy most of the day & blustering. Dr. called.

Tue March 28 Pleasant. Dr. called.

Wed March 29 Clear, rather cold. Birds sing beautifully. Lizzie & Archie went over to Mrs Williams'es and called to-night. They saw some snakes that were killed in the cemetery. Henry went to Hartford on the boat to-night.

Thur March 30 Cloudy & wet some, kind of misty. Henry came home to-night on the boat. Dr. called, am about the same. Belle has got sore mouth.

Fri March 31 Pleasant. Mrs Wms called this P.M. Sewed considerable. Lizzie took a ride up street and bought me some hair fixings and dressed my hair.
