Sat Jul 4 Foggy and cloudy in the morning and not very clear the rest of the day. There was a party went from this place in the Mary Atwater, but there was none of our family went. About noon Heber, Isabel and I went to Essex, and Philenda, Ann Maria Hull, Ed. W. and I went a riding.
Fri. Jul 10 Richard Slate was drowned. He fell out of the Ferry boat accidentally and was drowned. A couple of fishermen caught his body in their net which fell off their boat with out their knowledge. Caroline LaPlace was 17 years old.
Mon Jul 13 I commenced to board at Mr D. L. Miner's. Orin was 19 years old.
Thu Jul 16 Towards night Caroline Miner & I called to Mrs Frank LaPlaces. Marcus Beebe & George Warner spent the evening at Mrs Miners. Geo. dressed up.
Fri. Jul 17 Afternoon Philippi Doane and Philenda Williams visited my school. We took tea at Emma Warner's they spent the night at our house.
Sat Jul 18 Harriet LaPlace & Caroline, Emma Warner, Carlos, and John Warner spent the afternoon here. We went a sailing after tea, and left Philippi and Philenda on the other side of the river to go home.
Sun Jul 19 A very warm day. I went to Hadlyme to meeting wtih Orin Miner we took tea at Mr Lock Comstock's.
Wed Jul 22 Philippi Doan 18 years old.
Sat Aug. 1 It has not been very pleasant for a week past, rainy and foggy most of the time, which makes it bad for farmers who are haying. I have been boarding at Capt.. Tookers, Harriet is home, but will go back to New Haven soon. Jane Brockway Bull 21 years old. Celia Brockway and Ellen have been to Centerbrook, and Westbrook visiting this week. They left home Tuesday and returned last night.
Sun Aug 2 1857 It is a beautiful day. Gilbert LaPlace called this morning on his way home from Deep River. I will have a boquet ready for him when he goes back for Mrs Arndel. Mr Samuel (Bugeie) & Henry, and Mr Monroe (L--the) returned from Saybrook this morning with 532 eels and 22 flounder. Geo. Warner spent the eve here.
Sun Aug 9 Another pleasant Sunday. Isabel went on board the sloop Henry Clay this morning to go to Hartford with Aunt Mary Ann. I have been boarding the most of the time the past week at Mr Rosewell LaPlaces. Tuesday night went up to Mt. Archer and went out a whortleberrying. Mrs Keney died last Thursday.
Tue. Aug 18 After school Emma Warner and I went down to Mrs John Beebe's and spent the night. Wed. I went over to Caroline Warner's and spent the evening, there was quite a number in among the rest. Kate & Maria Buckingham, also a Mr Brewer from East Hartford.
Thu Aug. 20 In the afternoon Kate and Maria, and Emma Warner visited my school and came home with me from school. Carlos and George Warner spent the evening with us, we called at the Ulysses Warner's he has moved into the house that Mr Harrison used to occupy.
Fri. Aug 21 Mr Selden Warner the Visiting Committee visited my school. Kate and Maria went home to day. I received a letter from Harriet Tooker, her Aunt Hepsiber Gilliver has recently lost an infant son aged 8 days.
Wed Aug 26 I was sick yesterday and finished my school about 3 o'clock and have had no school to day. It has been a beautiful day. Caroline Warner, Caroline & Harriet LaPlace and Geo. Warner called on me this evening.
Fri Aug 28 A rainy morning and so I did not go into my school. In the afternoon I called over to Mr Ulysses Warner's and had an introduction to Mr Southworth and Mr Hunt from N.Y.. I spent the evening there.
Sat Aug 29 Antoinette and Celia Brockway spent the evening and afternoon, and Mr Hunt, Mr Southworth, Zeb, and Geo. Warner spent the evening. Mr Southworth is 17 and Mr Hunt but 16 years old.
Sun Aug 30 A pleasant day. I went up to Mrs Frank Laplaces and called with some of the young people, who called on me.
