July 1871

Sat July 1 Pleasant. Henry & Loss went to the landing & back this A.M. After 11 A.M. Ellen & I made Loss a coat & vest.

Sun July 2 Cloudy. Came home this P.M.

Mon July 3 Cloudy morning, pleasant afternoon. Bell, Edna, Nettie Bassett & Mr Hamilton took the boat for Hartford, to go from there to Waterbury. Mother & I washed. Henry went to Hamburgh & back.

Tue July 4 Cloudy morning, pleasant afternoon. Several excursion party's passed here. Good Templars had a picnic in Morgan's woods and Oakum Hall was dedicated this evening. A ball and a supper there, but I stayed home. Loss, Ellen & Frankie came down & called.

Wed July 5 Very warm. Called up to Mrs Zebulon Warner's this P.M.

Thur July 6 Warm. Henry painted Oscar's boat over once. I made a pair of pants for Eddie.

Fri July 7 Not quite as warm, a thunder shower during the night. Henry painted on Oscar's boat. Belle 5 months old & weighs 16 1/2 lbs.

Sat July 8 Pleasant. Henry went to Hartford & back. Belle & Edna came home on the Star. Mr Hamilton came with them. Mother & I went up to Mrs Diodate Tooker's and spent the afternoon, took Archie & Belle with us. Belle made little Belle a present of a gold chain.

Sun July 9 Warm.

Mon July 10 A very warm day. We washed. Mrs T. Miner called to-night. Mr Hamilton, Belle & Edna left on the boat this morning.

Tue July 11 Warm. I had a sore toe. Ironed little and sewed some.

Wed July 12 Cloudy morning, warm the rest of the day. Henry, baby and I went over to Nett's and took dinner. Mrs Zebulon Warner called there.

Thu July 13 A warm day.

Fri July 14 A warm day. Ironed some & sewed some. Henry went to Hamburghh & back.

Sat July 15 Warm.

Sun July 16 Warm. Cloudy at night and thunder showers during the night. At 5 P.M. Carlos & Mrs Warner, Henry & Belle and I took a sail to Mr David Warner's & back, did not see him, as he is quite low. Saw George & wife and two boys, one is about 6 weeks younger than Belle. George by name, he weighs 18 lbs.

Mon July 17 Warm. We washed.

Tue July 18 Pleasant. This P.M. Henry, Archie, Belle & I came to Centerbrook to Father Lord's. Came as far as Essex in a boat with Mill, the wind blew hard and we took in some water into the boat. I called at Philenda's and Father Lord came there for me and brought me out to his home. Gilbert Williams children both have whooping cough.

Thu July 20 Pleasant. Rained little last night. Mother Lord, Libbie, Little Eddie Comstock, Archie, baby & I took a ride to Essex & back. Called on Aunt Eliza and Beckey Platt.

Fri July 21 Pleasant. Libbie & I made her Mother a wash poplin dress.

Sat July 22 Pleasant. Wayland came home. Sarah came with him and stayed a few hours.

Sun July 23 Pleasant. Archie not very well. To-night Henry, Mr & Mrs Cheney took a walk back of the house and back of the factory. Libbie was lost.

Mon July 24 Pleasant. Was most sick with a cold.

Tue July 25 Cloudy, rained some. We came home this morning, arrived here at nearly 11 o'clock. Father Lord brought us as far as Micheuls, found no one but Eddie and a young puppy here. Mother had gone berrying, but soon returned. Am not very well today.

Wed July 26 A rainy day. We washed and put our clothes in soak.

Thu July 27 Cloudy some. Henry went to Hamburgh & Nett came home wtih him for me to her her about making a white dress. Bell came home from Moodus to-night on the Silver Star. She is through teaching there and at other places.

Fri July 28 Pleasant. Helped Nett. Mr Hamilton came this evening.

Sat July 29 Rainy. Mr Selden Post was buried this P.M., he died yesterday morning aged 49 years.

Sun July 30 Cloudy some. Loss & Edna came down & Henry went back with them to help him hay a couple of days.

Mon July 31 Cloudy some. Showery during the afternoon. I washed. Bell started for Thompsonville, Mr Hamilton went with her. Mother went to Hartford with them to do some trading for Ellen & stopped at East Haddam to-night. I ironed this P.M.
