Fri Jun 1 Summer opened to-day. In the morning it was cloudy, but it soon cleared off and in the afternoon clouded up again. Thundered and in the evening there was quite a shower. Frances Ely, Augusta Perkins, Emma Warner and Caroline LaPlace spent the afternoon here. I went home with Emma & spent the night. We called on Antoinette.
Sat Jun 2 I came home in the morning and went to knitting. Heber came home on the night boat his vessel is hauled out in Cow Bay.
Sun Jun 3 Some of the up street girls called here & Gilbert LaPlace & Ned Phelps. Henry spent the evening here.
Mon Jun 4 We washed. Towards night Mother went over to Aunt Mary Ann's to spent the night. Mr Edwin Bramble buried.
Tue 5 Mother came home at night and brought me a letter from Mrs Lee & I intend going to Hartford on Friday. Mrs David (Lote) was married last night to a Mr Spencer of East Haddam.
Wed 6 I attended the Union Society at Caroline Warner's. Henry came home with me.
Thu 7 Celia Pratt & Georgiane Williams spent the day here. I went up to Antoinette's in the afternoon and cut her a dress.
Fri 8 In the afternoon I went on board the L. Boardman and went to Hartford I reached Mrs Lee's about 1/2 past 6 P.M. and found all well there. Oscar called in the evening.
Sat 9 Went out morning & afternoon to look for hats, ordered one in the afternoon for Ellen. Went down on board the Granite State in the afternoon and saw some girls from home. In the evening Oscar went to (Southmayds) with me and treated me to ice cream & strawberries.
Sun 10 I went to Christ church in the morning and St. John's in the afternoon and heard the same discourse in both churches delivered by the same man Mr Stone, so much for leaving one church and going to another. Oscar called up towards night to take a walk with me, but the wind blew so uncomfortably that we did not go.
Mon 11 I went a shopping in morning and in the afternoon served.
Tue 12 Fannie Rice called in the evening & also Oscar. Did not go out during the day.
Wed 13 In the afternoon Mrs Lee and I went dfown to J Oscar Bills Dagerrian rooms and I had two ambrotypes taken.
Thu 14 Received this morning two letters one from Ellen & the other from Henry. Afternoon answered Henry's letter and mailed it. Bell arrived here this afternoon she left home in the sloop New World last Monday. In the evening Bell, Oscar & I went down to (Southmayds) and had some ice cream.
Fri 15 Bell & I took a walk in the afternoon to see the city.
Sat 16 Bell & I went down to Lee & Deanes in the morning and took a look around the store,
then did some shopping came up to Mrs Lee's and took dinner then prepared to go home in the sloop New World. Bell took a carriage to the vessel and I walked down & on my way called on Fanny Rice & Julian. We were towed down to Middletown by the Jos. E. Gillingham and while they were taking a part of a load into the vessel Bell & I took a walk. We remained in Middletown during the night.
Sun 17 We started early in the morning for home, but soon got aground in the fog, where we lay a few hours then got off and went on we had no wind at first but finally it breezed up a little from the southward and we beat down as far as Deep River and could get no further, we remained there till in the night then came down to Brockway's Ferry and anchored in the stream where we lay till morning.
Mon 18 Came on shore in the morning.
Tue 19 Went up to Ellen Brockway's and sewed for her.
Wed 20 Went to MeadowWoods dress making at Mrs Sanderses. Rained.
Thu 21 Came home about 10 o'clock & worked on my dress. The Society met at Mrs Danielses, no one went from here but Ellen & Bell.
Fri 22 Worked on Bell's and my dresses.
Sat 23 Received a letter from Pitt. Ellen & Bell went to Deep River to see a vessel launch, but she did not go off, she "fotched up".
Sun 24 Bell & I went to Hamburgh to church after church we went to Uncle Horace's and took tea then came home. Henry spent the evening here, also, Lee Jewett, Lee Wood, Antoinette Brockway, Clarinda Smith and Geo Warner.
Tue 26 I went up to Mrs Adeline Brockway's dress making.
Thu 28 In the afternoon I went over to Mrs Munroe Brockway's dress making. In the evening Henry & I went down to Mrs Caroline Peck's and ate some strawberries, then came up to Uncle William's and I spent the night there. Wm Gladwin of Essex was married last night to Miss Hattie Mack of East Haddam.
Fri 29 Went up to Mr Munroe Brockway's again in the afternoon. Henry spent the evening there.
Sat 30 I walked home in the morning. Finished off a silk dress skirt for Mrs Adeline Brockway and sewed some on a new mantle which I am making for myself. Called to Antoinettes in the evening. Came home knit some & topped off the last day of June with a good bowl of bread and milk.
