Mar 1 In the forenoon pleasant, afternoon cloudy, evening snowed some and rained a little. I counted 45 sleighs going in different directions between here and Ely's Ferry on the ice.
Mon Mar 3 Cold and blustering. Heber measured the ice on the river it was 16 1/2 in. thick.
Thu. Mar 6 Mrs Charlotte Banning's third child, a son, born. The Ladies Sewing Society met at Mrs Hannah Brockway's the last one in the year.
Mon Mar 10 Cold and blustering we washed. Gilbert LaPlace called - the ice in the river 17 in. thick.
Tue. Mar 11 Another cold windy day. A great sleighing party from Middletown to East Haddam on the river. In the evening I attended a party at Mary Lay's Jane Albee's birth day, she was present.
Thu. Mar 18 A pleasant day - still good crossing. I attended a party in the evening in Pleasant Valley. Emma Warner and I went with Lee Wood. I had another brother born.
Wed Mar 26 Pleasant. I crossed the river on the ice, and went down to Capt.. W. William's and applied to teach Meadowwoods school, then called at Capt.. Watrous and returned home.
Thu Mar 27 In the morning I crossed the river to Eliza Williams and she told me I could have the Meadowwoods school to teach and I am to start the 14 Apr. teach 20 weeks and receive $1.75 per week and my board.
