May 1956

Thu May 1 Cloudy. Kate (Urgrehart) was married to Capt. Ruggles. Eliza Williams came home and attended the wedding, she teaches school in Joshuatown.
Tue May 6 Finds me boarding at Mr Rosewell Buckingham's. In the evening I went a riding with Mr Wm E. Williams we went to Chester and called to see Jane Watrous and Emma Warner.
Wed May 7 Election day. I did not have many scholars as usual in the afternoon on account of a little party Sarah Tiffany was to have. In the evening Noria Buckingham and I rode to Chester with Gilbert LaPlace.
Thu May 8 Mr Erastus Miller died aged 25 years.
Tue. May 13 Cloudy. Towards night I called down to Mrs Cossmer Landerses with Lydia Buckingham and Maria Spencer. In the evening Heber, Ellen, Ware and Emma Warner called on me.
May 14 Capt. Palmers remains were brought up from New York this morning, the funeral was held this afternoon. Capt. Palmer was murdered on board of the schooner Endora Imogene, which he was commander of, the schonner was scuttled and sunk, Capt. P and mate Gilbert Pratt murdered, by the cook a colored man by the name of George Wilson, who was caught in his attempt to escape - tried - and finally hung. In the evening Maria Spencer, Lydia Buckingham and I took a walk to Deep River and back.
Fri. May 23 Oscar came home. He made me a present of a pair of vases, which he bought in London.
