October 1870

Sat Oct 1 Pleasant. Henry came home to-night.

Sun Oct 2 Cloudy some. Loss & Bell came down. Henry, Loss & Eddie went to Ely's Ferry, over one hundred people there trying to find the bodies of those who were drowned. They dragged the river and fired a cannon, but of no avail so far. Mother & Eddie went to evening meeting.

Mon Oct 3 Rainy. Henry went to Hamburgh & back.

Tue Oct 4 Pleasant. Henry went to Hartford. May Brockway a son born.

Wed Oct 5 1870 Pleasant morning, cloudy some this P.M., one light shower. Mother went to Mrs Abby Phelps'es with Mrs Warner. Father Lord called. Henry came home to-night.

Fri Oct 7 Henry went to Hartford.

Sat Oct 8 I went to Hartford & back. Bell went up and back from East Haddam. Henry came home with me.

Sun Oct 9 Pleasant.

Mon Oct 10 Henry went to Saybrook by the way of Lyme. Archie went to Lyme with him.

Tue Oct 11 Henry went to Saybrook via Essex. Lucy Ann & Kate & little Katie spent the day here. Helped Kate on a black alpaca dress.

Wed Oct 12 A rainy day. Henry went to Hartford & back.

Thur Oct 13 Pleasant. Henry went to Essex & Centerbrook, Willie came home with him. P.M. Mother & Eddie went to Deep River & back. Aunt Emeline moves to Boston, Mass next week, Uncle Jacob is already there.

Fri Oct 14 Pleasant. P.M. Mother & I went to Hamburgh & back, made some calls. Called on Mrs Richard Brockway, she has a son 10 days old. Henry went to Saybrook.

Sat Oct 15 Pleasant. Henry came home from Saybrook at mignight.

Sun Oct 16 Pleasant. Loss came down, Bell went home with him.

Mon Oct 17 We washed. Henry went to Hartford. Pleasant. Afternoon Mother, Eddie, Archie & I went to Comstock's Ferry & Deep River. Aunt Emeline moves to Boston to-night.

Tue Oct 18 Wind blew hard down the river. Sewed carpet rags.

Thur Oct 20 Very stormy. Henry came home on the Star at 4 o'clock A.M. and left again at 6, started to come home on Tuesday, but the boats grounded (Mouse) Island and he did not reach here till this A.M.

Fri Oct 21 Cloudy most of the day. Morning Archie & I rode to Hamburgh & back. Called to see Jimmie Brockway, he is sick with the fever. Mother went to East Haddam this P.M. Henry came home on the Star.

Sun Oct 23 Pleasant. Mother came home to-night.

Mon Oct 24 Pleasant. To-night Henry, Archie & I came up to East Haddam, to Loss.

Tue Oct 25 Very windy. Cut a waterproof for Ellen.

Wed Oct 26 Cloudy morning, rained little, pleasant P.M. We came home.

Thur Oct 27 Pleasant morning, rainy afternoon & evening. Henry, Archie & I came to Hartford on the Silver Star are stopping at the U.S. Hotel.

Fri Oct 28 Pleasant, clear forenoon, afternoon cloudy. Came home to-night. Went & selected crockery this P.M.

Sat Oct 29 Henry went to Saybrook, arrived home about midnight.

Sun Oct 30 Pleasant. Ellen & Millie came down. Bell went home with them.

Mon Oct 31 Very stormy last night, wind blew hard down the river today. Henry went to Saybrook to commence work for the new hotel. Jimmie Brockway died of Typhoid fever, aged 18 years.
