September 1871

Fri Sept 1 Pleasant. Mother & Edna washed. I hemmed 12 napkins & a tablecloth, cut a shirt waist & over skirt for Belle & Edna & partly made them.

Sat Sept 2 Warm. Henry went to Essex & back. Made some ("Rive-l") cake for wedding, sewed hard the rest of the day.

Sun Sept 3 Pleasant.

Mon Sept 4 Pleasant. Mr Hamilton & Henry took a ride to Goodspeed's & back.

Tue Sept 5 Pleasant. Mr Hamilton & Henry took a sail to Essex & Hamburgh & back. Mr & Mrs Bassett & Mr Anderson from Waterbury arrived to-night to attend Bell's wedding tomorrow.

Wed Sept 6 A pleasant day. Bell was married at 1/2 past 3 o'clock P.M. to Mr David B Hamilton of Waterbury. The Rev. Mr Anderson performed the marriage cerenomy after which dinner was served. Oscar & Nett were present, also Mrs Gilbert Williams & Philenda from Essex. They left on the Star this evening for N.Y. Edna left with them to go to school in New Britain. Mary Lord joined her at Essex. No one down from East Haddam.

Thu Sept 7 Pleasant. Baby Belle 7 months old & weighs 18 1/4 lbs. I called on Mrs Charles Martin at Mr Wm Brockway's. A clam bake went from this place to Saybrook.

Fri Sept 8 Pleasant. Mrs Eliza Wms Post, Emma Warner, Mrs Charles Martin, Miss Nancy Martin and Mrs Betsy Beebe called.

Sat Sept 9 Pleasant. Henry, Archie, Belle & I went to Lyme, went down in Capt. John (At--s) tug to Lyme Ferry & took a team to Sarah's. Mother & Father Lord called there, so we rode back to Higgins wharf with them and came from there in a sail boat, called at Essex & took in Carlos Warner, he went down to the clam flats with Henry.

Sun Sept 10 Pleasant. Tonight Henry & I called up to Mr Zebulon Warner's.

Mon Sept 11 Pleasant. We washed. Henry went to Hartford & back via Valley Road.

Tue Sept 12 Pleasant. Henry went to Hartford on the cars. Ellen Cone called.

Wed Sept 13 Pleasant. Henry came home to-night, brought some (------------) for the baby. White.

Thu Sept 14 Pleasant. Cut & partly made Belle's cloak, also a pair of pants for Archie. Henry went to Saybrook. Mother went to Essex.

Fri Sept 15 Cloudy, cold for the season. Rained some, rains to-night. Finished Belle's cloak and Archie's pants. Henry came home this P.M. Mother came home to-night. Received a letter from Mrs Bassett, Bell, & Edna. Bell was in N.Y., had been to Long Branch & is going to (Ni---g --------).

Sat Sept 16 Cloudy most of the day. Henry went to Essex & back this noon. Mother, Archie, baby & I spent the afternoon & evening at Augusta Anderson's. Henry went to Hamburgh and called there and took tea with us & came home with us in the evening , arrived home at 1/2 past 9 o'clock.

Sun Sept 17 Pleasant. Lonesome evening. Mr & Mrs Zebulon Warner & Mrs Warner called.

Mon Sept 18 Pleasant. We washed. Henry started to go to Hartford, but was too late for the train, so came home & went to Hamburgh & back.

Tue Sept 19 Pleasant. We ironed, I sewed some.

Wed Sept 20 Cloudy. Rained some this P.M. Henry, Archie, Baby & I came to Saybrook in a boat, came to Mrs Williamses & called. Got caught in the rain with a head wind, so are to spend the night here.

Thu Sept 21 Pleasant. Wind blew hard down the river, so Henry sent for his Father to bring me home in a wagon, which he did this P.M., and he came in a boat. Called up to Mr Woods this A.M. where we lived last winter, took a kitty from there to bring home. Dr. (Gran---) called on us.

Fri Sept 22 Pleasant. Henry went to Hartford & back.

Sat Sept 23 Pleasant. Henry, Mother, Archie, Belle & I went over to Nett's & spent the day. Received a letter from Belle & Edna. Belle was in Saratoga Springs Thursday, had been to Niagara & Montreal, via Lake Champlain & George.

Sun Sept 24 Pleasant.

Mon Sept 25 Pleasant. We washed. Henry went to Hartford on the cars, started to come home on them, came as far as Rocky Hill, could not come any farther as there had been an accident caused by the gravel train running off the track, and he came down the rest of the way on the Star.

Tue Sept 26 Cloudy, rained little, blew hard and looked as if we might be going to have a fine gale, but it came off clear & pleasant to-night.

Wed Sept 27 Pleasant. P.M. Henry, Archie & I went to Hamburgh called on Lucy Ann & Nett. Evening attended a husking bee at Mr Zebulon Warner's.

Thu Sept 28 Pleasant. This P.M. Henry & Archie went to Lyme. Mother & I went with them as far as long wharf and went to Mrs Post's & spent the afternoon. Willie came home from the Water Cure N.Y. Sunday morn. Mrs Tiley, Mrs Fred Pratt, Mrs Ezra Post & Libbie & Sarah Hayden called there.

Fri Sept 29 Pleasant. Henry & Archie came home from Lyme. Mrs Morgan came here from Essex. Harry, her son, was lost at sea in the ship (Ladone) last month.

Sat Sept 30 Pleasant. Henry, Archie and I went to Hartford & back via Deep River & Valley Road. Mrs Morgan returned to Essex on the Star this evening.
